The latest edition of the PISA study, conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), reveals that Portuguese students' results in reading, mathematics, and science have declined. This decline represents a concern for the government and the country's educational system.
The prime minister expressed the intention to "reimpose a culture of rigor" in the Education sector. The goal is to improve the quality of teaching and reverse the negative trend observed in Portuguese students' results.
The initiative comes as a response to the concerning PISA data, which is considered one of the main international indicators for assessing the academic performance of 15-year-old students in various countries. The government therefore intends to strengthen quality and rigor standards in Education in Portugal.
