Bought figs? This way of storing them can keep them fresh for a week

Figs can stay fresh for up to a week when stored in the refrigerator, as long as they are properly selected and conditioned before being placed in the cold. According to the publication Notícias ao Minuto, when stored at room temperature in a dry place, figs only last between two and three days, so refrigeration significantly extends their shelf life.

Before placing them in the refrigerator, it is necessary to examine all the figs and remove any that show mold or are too ripe. When selecting, preference should be given to fruits with brighter skin and soft texture, but not too mushy. This initial step is essential to prevent figs in poor condition from affecting the preservation of the rest.

Proper conditioning includes placing paper towels between the figs to separate them and absorb moisture, using a tray that allows air circulation, and distributing the fruits with space between each one. After organizing the tray, it should be wrapped in cling film or placed inside a plastic bag, in order to protect the figs from the aromas of other foods in the refrigerator. The recommendation is that they be stored in the fruit and vegetable drawer.

The indicated shelf life is up to a week, although this is not a guarantee that all figs will remain in the same condition for seven days. For those who wish to consume them more quickly, the alternative remains a dry place at room temperature, but for longer preservation, the described method involves the refrigerator with all the selection and conditioning precautions mentioned.
