The Lamego Nucleus of the League of Combatants celebrated its 102nd anniversary with a ceremony that had as its central moment the laying of a wreath at the Monument to the Combatants. The event was attended by the mayor of Lamego, Francisco Lopes, the president of the nucleus, Colonel Valdemar Lima, and the commander of the Special Operations Troops Center, Colonel Paulo Roxo.
In his speech, Francisco Lopes highlighted the courage and sense of duty of the former combatants, also emphasizing the role of the Lamego nucleus in preserving historical memory and providing social support to combatants and their families. The mayor also reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to maintaining collaboration with the institution.
The mayor announced that he will take all possible steps with the Government to seek to establish new premises for the headquarters of the Lamego nucleus during the next year. The ceremony also included the awarding of decorations to Ultramar combatants and the presentation of diplomas.
It should be noted that, in 2024, the Lamego City Council awarded the Gold Medal of the City, the highest municipal distinction, to the Lamego Nucleus of the League of Combatants, in recognition of the work developed by the institution.
