The parish of Lavradas, in the municipality of Ponte da Barca, is preparing to host another edition of the traditional Minhota Corn Husk Removal Festival, on September 26 at 9:00 PM. The event is promoted by the Parish Council of Lavradas and aims to keep alive one of the most emblematic traditions of Alto Minho.
The initiative brings together different generations for an evening marked by socializing, music and traditional flavors. Throughout the night, corn once again becomes the protagonist of a celebration that recreates the old corn husk removal evenings, an agricultural activity that consisted of manually extracting the grains from the corn cobs.
Among the delicacies that will be present at this edition are homemade corn bread, roasted sardines, flour broth and wine, elements that are part of Minhota tradition. The organization invites the population to participate and challenges visitors to bring their own musical instruments, namely concertinas, to liven up the night with music and traditional songs.
The Minhota Corn Husk Removal Festival of Lavradas aims to provide a moment of socializing among family, friends and the community, while contributing to preserve and pass on to new generations customs and traditions that are part of Minhota identity.
