Minister André Mendonça has until Friday (11) to respond to the appeal from the Advocacia-Geral da União (Attorney General's Office) against the removal of Federal Police Director-General Andrei Rodrigues. The 72-hour deadline was set by Supreme Court President Edson Fachin, who defined the period for analysis of the case.
The federal government is trying to overturn the preliminary decision that provisionally removed Andrei Rodrigues, considered close to President Lula, as well as PF Intelligence Director Leandro Almada. Eleven directors of the corporation put their positions at the government's disposal in solidarity with the director-general, worsening the institutional crisis.
The removal decision was praised by opposition candidates, while Lula's allies criticized the measure, accusing it of interfering in the electoral process on the eve of the election. The Supreme Court president held a meeting with aides to address the escalating crisis and is being advised to remove the rapporteurships of the Master and INSS cases from Mendonça's hands and assume them personally.
