500 police on the streets? "The Government is repeating what has already been done: propaganda, narrative, but then the action doesn't exist"

CNN Portugal9 September 2026 at 11:15

The president of the Police Professionals Trade Union Association, Paulo Santos, publicly expressed his concern that the announcement made by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, regarding the reinforcement of 500 police on the streets, might be just another promise without concrete implementation.

According to Paulo Santos, the Government is repeating an already well-known pattern of propaganda and narrative, without any effective action following. The president of the trade union association states that "we observe many announcements, but concretely, in effective terms, nothing exists", denouncing the lack of practical results from similar measures announced previously.

This position comes following what the predecessors of Luís Neves in the position will have already done, according to the union's perspective. Paulo Santos challenged the current minister to take this opportunity to demonstrate that he possesses sufficient political strength to concretize the measures he announces.
