Ukraine is considering legalizing pornography production in the country, a sector that is currently punishable with prison sentences that can reach seven years. The proposal, reported by The Wall Street Journal, comes as an initiative to combat corruption and raise millions of dollars in taxes that can finance the war effort against Russia.
The initiative is led by opposition deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak, chairman of the parliamentary finance committee. According to his estimates, legalization could yield enough funds for the Ukrainian state to purchase approximately 30,000 drones per year.
The war launched by Russia in February 2022 continues to demand significant financial resources from Ukraine, which is seeking innovative ways to finance its military effort and the country's reconstruction.
