CIVISA raises volcanic alert in Furnas due to increased seismic activity

SIC Notícias8 September 2026 at 22:51

CIVISA has raised the volcanic alert to level V1 at the Furnas volcano, located on São Miguel island in the Azores. The decision was made following a significant increase in seismic activity recorded in the region. The current alert will remain in effect for eight days, unless new information emerges that justifies a change.

The most energetic earthquake detected during this period reached a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale. This seismic event was felt by the local population in Furnas, which prompted particular attention from civil protection authorities and CIVISA, responsible for volcanic monitoring in the region.

Furnas is an area with a history of volcanic activity, so any increase in seismicity is treated with special care. Level V1 represents the first step on the volcanic alert scale, indicating a situation of increased vigilance, although without imminent threat to the population.

Volcanic alert raised to V1 at the Azorean Furnas volcano

The Azores Seismovolcanic Information and Surveillance Centre (CIVISA) today raised the volcanic alert level at Furnas volcano to V1, corresponding to a volcanic system in a metastable equilibrium phase, due to an increase in seismic activity recorded since 11:47 local time. CIVISA's statement indicates that the volcano, located in the municipality of Povoação on São Miguel island, has been showing an increase in seismic events, although all tremors recorded so far have been of low magnitude.

Individualized rhinoplasty enhances facial features

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that modifies a central structure of the face, affecting facial proportions and, in some cases, breathing. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the surgery can change the size, width, profile, tip and asymmetries of the nose, in addition to correcting structural breathing problems. The entity emphasizes that the procedure should be individualized, with realistic goals, since appropriate measurements for one face do not guarantee the same balance in another. A study published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery compared nasal proportions of women from different ethnic groups with neoclassical aesthetic canons, identifying significant variations among the groups.

Does Lipo HD have artificial results? Surgeon explains

High-definition liposuction (Lipo HD) has gained prominence in Brazil, which ranks first worldwide in the number of aesthetic plastic surgeries, with 289,766 recorded liposuctions. Unlike conventional liposuction, Lipo HD works more selectively on fat deposits, acting on the superficial and deep layers of adipose tissue to create transitions between regions of greater and lesser projection, with the goal of highlighting contours already existing in the patient's anatomy.
