The show "Vagabundus" took to the stage at Centro Cultural Vila Flor (CCVF) to bring the audience a reflection on migration through dance and the body. On stage, 13 performers dance and sing continuously, using a Mozambican musical repertoire that fuses traditional and contemporary elements, inspired by gospel and baroque. The creation, conceived and choreographed by Íidio Chichava, seeks to represent migratory flows and the human experience of those who move, showing the migrant as a nomad of modern times, but also as a colonizer, discoverer or Vagabond.
The choreography is inspired by the dance ritual of the Makonde people in Mozambique, where dance and song intersect as forms of collective expression. It is from this reference that Chichava develops the idea of a "global body," understood as a natural human condition that, according to the choreographer, has been forgotten over time.
In "Vagabundus," the body assumes the central role in the narrative, with no elaborate set designs, costumes, or lighting effects needed to create impact. The strength of the show comes from the energy of the performers, the movement, and the voices, with special attention to the emotional dimensions of dance. The relationship with the audience is equally unconventional, as the movement of spectators is free during the performance, transforming the show into an open-ended experience without rigidly defined beginnings or endings.
The production is presented by Companhia Converge+ and features performances by Açucena Chemane, Arminda Teimizira, Calton Muholove, Cristina Matola, Fernando Machaieie, Judite Novela, Mauro Sigauque, Martins Tuvanji, Nilégio Cossa, Osvaldo Passirivo, Patrick Manuel Sitoe, Stela Matsombe and Vasco Sitoe.
