A meteorological phenomenon occurred in the Albergaria-a-Velha area, resulting from a 'downburst'. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a statement explaining the causes of the phenomenon.

According to IPMA, the occurrence of the downburst was favored by the presence of dry air at the lowest levels of the atmosphere, by intense precipitation and by hail. These combined elements produced strong wind gusts.

The wind gusts were responsible for the damage recorded in the Albergaria-a-Velha region.

IPMA explains that meteorological phenomenon that caused damage in Aveiro resulted from a 'downburst'

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) explained that the meteorological phenomenon that caused damage in Aveiro was a "downburst", a downward current of cold and dry air that, upon reaching the surface, spread horizontally with intense winds, causing significant damage in the region. The combination of various atmospheric factors, including atmospheric instability, humidity, and heat, favored the occurrence of thunderstorms and heavy showers in different areas of the North and Center of the country.

Advancing dismissal times, hydration or hand fans: this is how schools in Castellón will fight the heat after Education's shock plan 'patch'

With almost 99,000 students in the province of Castellón about to start the school year, several classrooms are already exceeding 30°C, reaching 34°C at CEIP Censal in Castelló, while maximum temperatures reached 38°C in the southern interior of the region. Faced with this situation, educational centers are implementing measures such as anticipating student departures, reinforcing hydration and distributing hand fans, after the action plan presented by the Education Council was considered insufficient by teachers and parent associations (Ampas).
