Court of Accounts confirms 'green light' to State's purchase of 13.7% of REN

The Court of Accounts approved the purchase of 13.7% of REN by the Portuguese State through Parpública, with the decision made on August 31, overcoming the final condition needed to complete the deal agreed on August 14 with Pontegadea Inversiones, the investment company of Amancio Ortega, founder of Inditex. The transaction involved the transfer of 91,723,676 shares, corresponding to 13.7% of REN's share capital, with Pontegadea completely exiting the company. The deal amounted to approximately 380 million euros, with a 17% premium over market value. With this acquisition, the State becomes the second largest position holder in REN, with 13.7%, behind the Chinese State Grid's 25%, with the Government justifying the operation on sovereignty and energy security grounds. This represents the State's return to REN's capital, after having sold its last stake in 2014.
