"We want to take Julian home": family launches appeal after young man found dead in river

Notícias de Coimbra8 September 2026 at 16:28

The family of Julian Amaral, a 23-year-old British young man, made a public appeal asking for him to be brought back home, after he was found dead in the Tagus River. The young man had gone missing during a trip to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and his body was located in the waters of the river.

The family is trying to raise funds to cover the costs of repatriating the body and the funeral ceremonies. The appeal comes at a time of great pain for the relatives, who see in the repatriation the possibility of giving Julian an appropriate funeral in his country of origin.

Julian was from the United Kingdom and was 23 years old. The article does not specify how long he had been in Lisbon nor the exact circumstances that led to his disappearance and subsequent death in the Tagus River.

The Tagus River, which crosses Lisbon, is one of the most well-known geographical landmarks of Portugal. The case attracted media attention, especially after the heartfelt appeal from the family to take Julian back home.
