Two Mexicans were arrested in the act on Monday by civil police from the Station for the Investigation of Crimes Against Intangible Property (DRCPIM) while selling stolen cell phones during Rock in Rio, in Barra da Tijuca, Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The foreigners were located at a hotel in the central region of the state capital. During the operation, six cell phones were recovered.
Investigations indicated that the pair had already sold some stolen devices earlier in the Uruguaiana area, in downtown Rio. The civil police also identified two men who were negotiating the purchase of the stolen cell phones, who were taken to DRCPIM to provide statements about the case.
The recovered cell phones will undergo technical forensic analysis. After the completion of legal procedures, the devices will be returned to their legitimate owners. The case remains under investigation to identify other possible victims and determine the extent of the Mexican duo's activities.
