A Brazilian woman, approximately 40 years old, got lost this Tuesday while walking on a trail in the Cabril area, in the municipality of Montalegre. Civil Protection received the alert at 11:15 am, after the hiker reported that she had become disoriented and could not find her way back on her own.
Given the situation, a rescue team from the Salto Volunteer Firefighters was mobilized, consisting of seven firefighters and two vehicles, including a 4x4 rescue ambulance and a rescue team.
The search operation ended successfully. The woman was found safe and was well, with no transport being necessary for clinical reasons.
The incident once again highlights the challenges associated with walking routes in mountain areas with reduced mobile network coverage, particularly when hikers are not familiar with the territory. The authorities recommend that, before starting a trail, the route be consulted, weather conditions be evaluated, and the planned itinerary be communicated to someone trustworthy, especially in rural and mountain areas.
