The two police officers from the Public Security Police in Olhão, in the Algarve, began standing trial accused of kidnapping and killing a Moroccan citizen. The trial takes place before the court and marks one of the most delicate cases involving police officers in the region.
The two Public Security Police officers deny any involvement in the crimes they are accused of. According to their defense, the officers' actions amounted to resolving a dispute between the victim and one of their colleagues, after which they merely drove the victim home.
The Moroccan citizen is believed to have been kidnapped and later killed, in a case that generated great anticipation in the local community. Authorities investigated the circumstances of the death and concluded the criminal responsibility of the two officers.
