Armamar remembered this Monday the 14 firefighters who died 41 years ago in the Serra de Lumiares fire, with a mass in their memory. The ceremony commemorated another anniversary of the tragedy that claimed the firefighters, who were aged between 17 and 39. The municipality of Armamar, in the district of Viseu, holds this tribute every year to the operatives who lost their lives fighting the flames. The commemoration marks the moment when Portugal recorded one of its greatest tragedies among volunteer firefighters fighting rural fires.
