dnoticias.pt8 September 2026 at 16:08

A wastewater spill is contaminating a tributary of Ribeira de Santo António in an area near the Church of Santo António, in Funchal. The situation represents a potential environmental and public health problem.

The complaint reached DIÁRIO through a reader and was subsequently confirmed on-site by the newspaper's reporting team. A sewage pipe coming from the underground of Impasse 1 of Caminho da Igreja was identified as the source of the contamination.

The site is located between the petrol station and the intersection with Caminho de Santo António. The article indicates that wastewater is being dumped directly into the tributary of the stream.
