The world's largest maritime powers issued a joint warning about an imminent threat to world trade. The warning was issued by the Consultative Shipping Group (CSG), a body that brings together 18 of the main nations with activity in the maritime sector.
The CSG represents more than one fifth of world trade when considered in terms of tonnage. This significant weight in the global trade scenario makes the alert particularly relevant for the international economy.
The group states that "the rules are collapsing", suggesting that the current system of regulation and functioning of maritime trade faces serious challenges.
