Mette-Marit's son to remain four more weeks under house arrest after assault convictions

SOL7 September 2026 at 18:39

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, must remain under house arrest with electronic monitoring for another four weeks. The young man was sentenced in June to four years in prison for two assaults and abuse against an ex-girlfriend.

The trial took place at the Oslo District Court, where the accusations regarding Høiby's violent and abusive behavior toward his former partner were examined. The initial sentence determined that the young man should serve his time in a prison facility.

Following the conviction, Marius Borg Høiby appealed the sentence, contesting the court's decision. The appeal is still pending, but during the appellate process, Norwegian authorities decided to keep him under house arrest with an electronic tag rather than sending him to a regular prison.

This is not the first time the son of Mette-Marit has been involved in legal troubles. Høiby has a history of similar incidents, which has generated significant media attention in Norway, a country that traditionally values the privacy of the royal family.
