Público8 September 2026 at 10:14

Four paintings by French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir were stolen from the Château de Cagnes-sur-Mer museum in the south of France. The works were valued at nine million euros.

The robbery was discovered when the museum's alarm went off during the early morning, at 5:48 AM local time. In Lisbon, due to the time difference, it was 4:48 AM.

French authorities were alerted after the alarm went off and began an investigation to locate the paintings and identify those responsible for the theft.

This robbery represents a significant loss for the artistic heritage, considering the high value of the stolen pieces and the importance of the museum in the region.
