The PSP of Espinho arrested two men, aged 37 and 39, suspected of posing as Judicial Police inspectors to rob passersby on the street. The duo used a false pretense of police authority to approach and surprise victims, committing at least three robbery crimes and one of aggravated coercion.
The crimes occurred mainly in central and busy areas of the municipality, particularly in the Bay area and Avenue 24. When approaching victims, the suspects simulated searches and demanded goods such as money, mobile phones and gold items. The conduct was marked by extreme aggression, including physical assaults that forced at least one person to receive hospital care, and death threats to prevent victims from contacting the authorities.
The police operation resulted in the execution of detention, search and seizure warrants. The arrested individuals, both residing in Espinho, have an extensive criminal record related to thefts and robberies, having already served prison sentences for similar offenses.
Authorities admit the existence of more victims of this scheme in the region and are maintaining investigations ongoing. The two defendants were brought before first judicial hearing for the application of precautionary measures.
