SPEA addresses the impact of reducing light pollution at a conference in Australia

SPEA-BirdLife Madeira, through its coordinator Cátia Gouveia, presented the results of the LIFE Natura@night project at the 4th World Seabird Conference, held in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, between September 7 and 11. The international conference focused on reducing the impact of light pollution on seabirds.

The LIFE Natura@night project involved a joint experience between three Atlantic archipelagos: Madeira, the Azores and the Canaries. The main objective was to study and mitigate the negative effects of light pollution on marine fauna, particularly on birds that nest on these islands.

Cátia Gouveia participated in the meeting with an oral presentation dedicated exclusively to the results obtained by the project. The presentation allowed sharing with the international scientific community the methodologies developed and the conclusions reached during the implementation of light pollution reduction measures in the three island territories.
