A cold front is expected to hit mainland Portugal on Tuesday, October 8th, bringing rain to the North and Centre of the country. Minho will be the first region to receive precipitation, with onset expected between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Eight districts will be affected: Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Vila Real, Viseu, Bragança, and Guarda. Accumulations may reach 15 to 25 millimetres in the mountainous areas of northeastern Braga and northern Vila Real. The front's passage will not be uniform, being more intense in the Northwest, where the probability of rain exceeds 90%. After the rain, polar air will cause temperatures to drop from northwest to southeast throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, in a temporary episode that will bring conditions closer to autumn after days of intense heat.

Seven Algarve municipalities are today with "maximum" fire danger

Seven Algarve municipalities – Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Castro Marim – are today with maximum wildfire danger, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Alcoutim and Vila Real de Santo António present very high risk, while Lagoa, Albufeira, Faro and Olhão have high danger. IPMA determines rural fire danger in five levels, based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation in the previous 24 hours.
