Seven Algarve municipalities are today with "maximum" fire danger

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) classified seven Algarve municipalities with "maximum" rural fire danger today. The affected municipalities are Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Castro Marim.

Additionally, five municipalities present "very high" risk: Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Alcoutim and Vila Real de Santo António. IPMA also classified four more municipalities with "high" danger: Lagoa, Albufeira, Faro and Olhão.

The rural fire danger determined by IPMA has five classification levels. The calculations to determine each level are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.
