The Military Police used tear gas bombs to contain a clash between demonstration groups on Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo, on Monday morning (7). The reinforcement in policing was made due to the demonstrations scheduled for the September 7th holiday.

According to accounts obtained by the newspaper O Globo, a left-wing group came to the location carrying banners against Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and tried to access Paulista Avenue, where an event was scheduled with the presence of the presidential candidate for PL, Jair Bolsonaro's son, Flávio Bolsonaro.

In the region of Peixoto Gomide Street with Alameda Santos, the left-wing protesters met a group of supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro who were heading to the right-wing demonstration. The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that one group tried to invade the space intended for the other, which led security forces to intervene to control the situation.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, cancelled a high-level defense working group that was set to be launched today and included former Portuguese minister João Gomes Cravinho, after several member states considered the initiative untimely. The group was to be led by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and composed of former leaders such as France's Florence Parly, Britain's Ben Wallace, Ukraine's Andriy Zagorodnyuk, and Estonia's Juri Luik. The objective was to address gaps in Europe's conventional military capabilities and evaluate the response to Russian hybrid attacks.
