The Lisbon City Council approved a maximum support of 120 euros per student for students attending their first year of 10th grade in a cluster of schools or non-clustered school in the public network of the municipality, aimed at acquiring specific equipment and materials for their respective courses. The measure, which applies to the 2026/2027 school year, covers students whose households are classified in social action tiers A, B or C, as well as students with special health needs.
The support is not automatic and does not correspond to a full allocation of 120 euros to all students, depending on the fulfillment of defined criteria and covering only expenses considered eligible by the school. Each educational establishment is responsible for defining which specific equipment and materials of each course are covered, which may include scientific-humanistic, professional, or artistic courses. Families should contact the educational establishment before making purchases to confirm the covered items and learn about the defined procedure.
To request support, families must go to the cluster or school attended by the student and formalize the application. The management of funds is the responsibility of the educational establishments, to which the Lisbon City Council transfers the amounts after the allocation of support. This measure is part of the municipal measures for School Social Action and educational development, which also include the free provision of activity books and school textbooks for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education.
In the 1st cycle, the annual support for school materials is 25 euros for tiers A and B of the School Social Action and 12.50 euros for tier C, with a separate budget of the same amount for school trips. In preschool education, the support is 31.25 euros for tiers A and B and 15.63 euros for tier C. There is also support of 30 euros annually per student for assistive technologies for students with special health needs in the 1st cycle, and 300 euros per year per child or student with additional measures in learning support centers.
