The PSD parliamentary leader, Hugo Soares, stated on Monday that the motion of censure presented by Chega against the Government is completely out of touch with reality, using the expression that it fell "from Mars in tumbles." The Social Democrat leader accused Chega's leader, André Ventura, of using this motion only to stay in the media agenda, listing the various interviews Ventura has given in recent weeks.
Hugo Soares defended that the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, has already given all necessary explanations about the issues that motivated the motion of censure. The minister will be heard in parliament on Tuesday morning, and PSD hopes he will speak about strengthening border control at airports or about fighting this summer's wildfires.
PSD preferred to highlight positive economic indicators, such as the upgrade of the Republic's rating, the decline in unemployment, and growth above the eurozone. Hugo Soares criticized that while taxes fall and salaries increase, the country is discussing a possible fall of the Government that will not happen, accusing André Ventura of being "the deputy of chaos, instability, and televisions."
Chega's motion of censure will be debated and voted on Tuesday in the Assembly of the Republic, centered on maintaining Luís Neves in the Government. Its approval is definitively ruled out, since it would need the favorable vote of 116 deputies, and PS has already announced it will vote against or abstain. Hugo Soares deferred to next week the discussion about priorities for the legislative session, including the State Budget for 2027 or constitutional revision.
