Bernie Ecclestone, former Formula 1 boss, was arrested in Tires, Portugal, allegedly for illegal possession of a shotgun. The 95-year-old British businessman was intercepted by officers of the Airport Division of the Public Security Police during a routine operation.
The arrest occurred after Ecclestone landed at the Tires airfield aboard a private jet. The authorities proceeded with a search and seizure of the allegedly illegal shotgun.
Ecclestone was subsequently made a formal suspect and is expected to answer in court for the crime of illegal weapon possession. The case is now in the hands of Portuguese judicial authorities.
