Bernie Ecclestone, former boss of Formula 1, was arrested at Tires Aerodrome, in Cascais, by Portuguese authorities. The arrest occurred during a routine operation after Ecclestone had landed in a private jet.
During the security search, a shotgun was found in the possession of the former sports executive. The authorities proceeded with the arrest according to the usual procedures in this type of situation.
Ecclestone, who for decades was the central figure and power figure of Formula 1, was held at the aerodrome after the incident. The case was handled by the competent Portuguese authorities.
The episode occurred when Ecclestone was landing in Portugal, a country where he holds residency and where he is frequently seen, including at golf events.
