PJ arrests and seizes assets worth 15 million euros in organized crime investigations

SAPO Notícias7 September 2026 at 13:01

The Judicial Police carried out arrests and seizures of assets worth 15 million euros in the context of investigations for organized crime. This operation represents one of the highest values of seizures ever recorded in Portugal in this type of investigation.

Among the seized assets are real estate, vehicles, financial products and company shares. The authorities managed to confiscate significant assets from the suspects involved in the investigations.

The seizures were carried out under the new rules for extended asset forfeiture, a legal instrument that allows authorities to confiscate assets even when there is no judicial conviction, as long as it is proven that the assets have a criminal origin. This legislation has been increasingly used in the fight against organized crime in Portugal.
