Memorial to Elevador da Glória victims features Alcobaça stone

A memorial was erected in honor of the victims of the Elevador da Glória accident in Lisbon. This memorial includes stone benches on which the names of the 16 victims who lost their lives in the accident are engraved.

The stone chosen for the benches was Moleanos Creme, a type of Portuguese natural stone. This material decision aims to create a dignified space of memory for the families and for the city.

The accident occurred on September 3, 2025 at the Elevador da Glória, an iconic historic lift in the Portuguese capital that connects the Bairro Alto to the Baixa. The accident caused 16 deaths and deeply marked the city.
