A video circulating on social media shows the moment when a huge avalanche of snow and rocks fell from Mount Mizhirgi, at 5,020 meters altitude, and hit an area where a group of climbers was. The landslide left 11 dead and six injured in the Bezengi gorge, in the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, in Russia.
The tourists who filmed the avalanche were impressed by the size of the scene. One of them stated: "You only see things like this in movies." Another questioned whether the group should continue the route, asking: "But how is it possible to simply abandon something like this?" They agreed to continue, believing that the snowslide no longer posed a danger. Only later did they learn that the landslide had been fatal for another 11 hikers.
