Playwright Augusto Boal (1931-2009), creator of the Theatre of the Oppressed, has two of his plays on stage in Rio de Janeiro. Boal was from Rio de Janeiro and is internationally recognized for his innovative theatrical work.

The play "Revolution in South America" premiered in 1960 at the historic Teatro de Arena in São Paulo, and was one of the first in the country to give protagonism to the working class. The text was influenced by Brecht's epic theatre and follows worker José da Silva, who in search of a solution for his hunger plunges into a contradictory Brazil, permeated by political and social caricatures.

The new production of the play opens this Tuesday (8) at Teatro Poeirinha in Botafogo, directed by Wellington Fagner. The performances take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 PM, with tickets at R$ 80, rated for 12 years and up, and a season planned until October 21.

Additionally, the Mostra Ocupa Boal is back with the play "H...", also adapted from the playwright's work. The article also mentions other plays on stage in Rio, such as "Rita Lee: Ballad of the Crazy" starring Lilia Cabral, arriving in October, and "Good Night, Mother" starring Ana Beatriz Nogueira and Andréia Horta.
