PSD deputy Francisco Figueira, elected for the Évora constituency, considered that the Alentejo experienced a historic moment with the inauguration of the Eastern Évora Bypass of the Itinerário Principal 2 (IP2). This infrastructure, spanning 12.8 kilometers and with a total investment of 54.9 million euros, represents for the parliamentarian "one more commitment fulfilled" by the Government in the region.
Francisco Figueira harshly criticized the PS and the PCP, accusing them of not having completed the IP2 route during their eight years in government and of now invoking the programming of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) as an excuse. The deputy highlighted that Beja and Portalegre continue without motorway connection and accused the left-wing parties of practicing "inconsequential bragging" on the day of the inauguration.
The PS, for its part, congratulated itself on the inauguration of the bypass, but argued that this infrastructure was assumed by a socialist government and abandoned in 2011 by a PSD/CDS-PP executive. The District Federation of Évora of the PS considered the work structural and a "fulfillment of a commitment assumed by the PS with the people of the Alentejo".
The PCP also intervened in the debate, claiming the completion of the remaining section of the IP2 between the new Eastern Bypass and the São Manços Branch, whose works were suspended in 2011. The Direction of the Regional Organization of Évora of the PCP stated that the IP2 "is not completed" and that this part of the road "cannot continue to be abandoned," promising to fight so that the Government addresses this issue.
