The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed Coimbra under yellow warning due to thunderstorm, heavy rain and wind gusts. The warning was issued today, September 5, reflecting the adverse weather conditions affecting the region.
The IPMA raised from 14 to 17 the number of districts under warning, demonstrating the extent of the dangerous weather conditions being felt in various parts of the country.
The yellow warning represents the lowest level of weather alert, but still indicates risk for certain activities especially sensitive to weather conditions, such as outdoor events or road traffic.
The authorities recommend caution to the population, avoiding unnecessary travel during periods of greatest intensity of the thunderstorm and heavy rain.
