The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) raised the number of districts under yellow warning from 14 to 17. The decision was made due to the adverse weather conditions expected, which include high temperatures, thunderstorms and strong wind and rain.
The yellow warning, which represents a moderate risk for certain activities, will be in force until 21:00. This meteorological situation affects most of the Portuguese mainland territory, covering almost all districts of the country.
Authorities recommend caution to the population, especially in areas most vulnerable to flooding and falling trees. Civil protection services remain on alert to intervene if necessary.
This worsening of weather conditions comes after a period of intense heat in various regions of the country, which created conditions conducive to the formation of severe storms.
