Fuel prices in Portugal will rise significantly next week. Simple diesel is expected to increase by 15 cents per liter, while simple 95 gasoline will rise by 12 cents per liter.
According to estimates from the Automobile Club of Portugal, the average price of diesel should reach 2.169 euros per liter and that of simple 95 gasoline could reach 2.142 euros per liter.
The price surge is being driven by the crisis in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, strategic routes for global oil transport.
It remains to be seen whether the Portuguese government will activate the extraordinary ISP (Special Tax on Petroleum Products) discount to mitigate the impact of this increase on consumers.
