About 17% of the country's meteorological stations exceeded the maximum values previously recorded for September, demonstrating the unusual intensity of this heat wave.

Alcochete was the location that recorded the highest temperature in the country, at 44.3 degrees Celsius, an extremely high value for this time of year.

This episode of extreme heat contrasts with what is normal for early September in Portugal, marking a historic day in the country's meteorological records.
