Airbus Spain announced on Friday, September 4, that the company and union representatives from ATP, COO, SIPA and UGT, representing 88% of workers, reached an agreement proposal mediated by the Ministry of Industry. The memorandum allows reaching the necessary consensus to submit the proposal to a referendum among all employees.
The meeting was held by the Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the ministry's headquarters. The agreement comes after the closing of the second mediation session at the Joint Service for Mediation and Arbitration (SIMA) on Thursday. The objective is for workers to have time to understand the content of the proposal before the vote.
The agreement proposal defines a balanced solution to the conflict that allows protecting company stability, the well-being and safety of all employees, as well as the future of industrial activity in Spain. Airbus stated that the proposal incorporates final improvements and specific clarifications that improve conditions while ensuring that Airbus in Spain maintains a strong and competitive position.
The strike at Airbus Spain began on July 1, with cuts to teleworking and the loss of purchasing power as the main factors of the conflict. The CGT and UTIL did not participate in the meeting, accusing the government of betraying workers. Counselor Rocío Blanco warned that the strike could have serious consequences for employment, in a strategic sector that employs up to 4,000 direct workers in the provinces of Seville and Cádiz, to which 15,000 indirect workers are added.
