The area burned this year in Portugal ranks as the fifth highest of the decade, according to data from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests. This information comes in a context of continued concern about rural fires in the country.
ICNF revealed that out of 6910 rural fires recorded, 6024 have already been investigated. This number represents the vast majority of occurrences, allowing for detailed monitoring of the situation.
ICNF's data allows for assessing the dimension and frequency of fires that have affected the national territory throughout the year, placing the current fire season among the most significant of the last decade in terms of area burned.
