The father of the children, Sergio García, worked as an orderly at the Sociedad de Riegos la Casella in Alzira for about two weeks, covering the holidays of the holder. On Thursday, he took his children to the site and, while unloading bricks from the car, one of the pillars from which a hammock net was hanging gave way and fell on the children.
The girl Emma, 11 years old, died crushed by the pillar, while her brother Sam, 9 years old, was seriously injured and remains hospitalized in the ICU at Hospital La Fe in Valencia. Sergio García described the moment as a horrible scene, comparable to a horror movie, and said he couldn't do anything to save his children, even though they were only two meters away.
The father said the children were under the pillar with severe bleeding and considered what happened as something unrepeatable and impossible to overcome. The accident occurred when the structure gave way suddenly, without warning, in a place that was frequented by the family.
