The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) granted authorization for Petrobras to drill three new exploratory wells in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, located in the state of Amapá, in the Equatorial Margin region. The decision was signed by the president of the environmental agency, Jair Schmitt, this Thursday.
The state-owned company Petrobras considers these wells essential to evaluate whether the recent oil discovery made in the region has commercial viability. Drilling the new wells will allow the collection of more data about the oil potential of the area.
