US job creation above expectations increases chances of interest rate hike by the Fed this month

oglobo4 September 2026 at 15:49

The dollar opened Friday higher after the release of the US employment creation report (payroll), which showed the opening of 162 thousand jobs in the previous month. The market expectation was for the creation of only 53 thousand jobs, representing a gain well above expectations.

With this stronger-than-expected data, investors' reading is that the Federal Reserve (Fed), the US central bank, should direct all its attention to fighting inflation, given that the labor market demonstrates resilience. Harsh statements from Fed chairman Kevin Warsh indicate discomfort with the trajectory of price increases in the economy.

In addition to this positive payroll data, the scenario suggests an interest rate hike by the US central bank at this month's meeting, on the 16th. US interest rates act as a magnet for global capital, attracting investments to US Treasury bonds to the detriment of other investments around the world.

Around noon, the dollar was up 0.26%, at R$ 5.12. On the FedWatch platform, from CME, investors monitor projections for the Federal Reserve's upcoming decisions.
