Helena Resano, presenter of laSexta Noticias, used her program to denounce the increase in aggressions against journalistic teams deployed to the demonstrations in support of Ceuta. The journalist publicly criticized the attacks suffered by communication professionals during the coverage of these events.
Before showing images of the incidents, Resano asked a direct question: "¿Desde cuándo es normal atacar a un periodista en democracia?" (Since when is it normal to attack a journalist in democracy?), questioning the normalization of violence against communication professionals.
The news program showed various incidents suffered by workers from both Atresmedia, the group to which laSexta belongs, and RTVE, the Spanish public television. These attacks occurred in the context of demonstrations organized in support of the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta.
Resano's defense comes as a response to the episodes of violence recorded against journalists covering the protests, highlighting the growing concern about the safety of media professionals in situations of coverage of events with strong political and social significance.
