France: more than 80 cases of salmonellosis lead to pumpkin seed recall

More than 80 cases of salmonellosis were detected in France, all linked to a single strain of Salmonella Enteritidis. French health authorities identified the origin of the outbreak in transformed pumpkin seeds.

The pumpkin seeds responsible for the outbreak were produced in the department of Lot-et-Garonne, in France. The products were then distributed and sold through the Grand Frais supermarket chain.

Public health authorities continue to monitor the situation and investigate the full extent of the outbreak. The withdrawal of affected products from the market is underway to prevent further cases of infection.

Salmonella Enteritidis is one of the most common strains of salmonella and can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain, usually lasting a few days.

Security cameras recorded the moment the animal lunged at a driver who was getting out of a moving van. Witnesses believe the creature could be a gray fox or a fisher cat, but police have not yet managed to capture it to identify the species. The main suspicion of authorities is that the animal is contaminated with the rabies virus, and the population has been advised to remain alert to their surroundings.
