A newborn baby, still with its umbilical cord attached and covered in placenta, was rescued after being abandoned in a bathroom trash can at Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas, Malaysia, on August 31. A janitor found the child after hearing cries coming from inside the trash can. The baby was taken to the hospital for care, but there is no information about its health condition.
The case was captured on film by a security officer at the terminal, who recorded the moment the baby was pulled from the trash can crying loudly and carried to a nearby sink. The video went viral on social media in Malaysia.
A 23-year-old Malaysian woman and a 22-year-old man from Myanmar were detained as part of the investigation into the incident. The police chief of the Southwest district, Anuwal Ab Wahab, stated that officers identified the woman after analyzing footage from the airport's security cameras. She was arrested at Kompleks Bukit Jambul.
