Rescue teams continue working urgently to find more survivors trapped in tunnels of a hydroelectric plant in Nepal, after two workers were found alive nine days after the floods that devastated the country and neighboring Tibet. The rescue of these two men gave new momentum to the operations at the Trishuli 3A plant, located in Rasuwa district.
The two rescued workers were identified as Sanjay Shah, mechanical supervisor, and Kabir Maharjan, mechanical foreman, both employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority. They were found alive after nearly a whole week trapped inside the tunnel structure.
Rescue teams reported having heard other voices coming from inside the tunnel, indicating that there may still be people alive under the rubble. Therefore, work continues with the removal of mud and debris to try to reach possible survivors.
The floods that hit Nepal and Tibet caused massive devastation in the region, with nearly 1,300 confirmed deaths in both territories. The natural disaster forced emergency rescue operations in various affected areas.
