DGS issues alert for dust in the air and calls for special protection for vulnerable groups

The Directorate-General for Health issued this Friday an alert due to poor air quality caused by the presence of suspended dust from North Africa. The phenomenon is caused by an air mass that carries natural particles and is crossing mainland Portugal, affecting the entire territory. The alert indicates that the phenomenon should continue today and Saturday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere, with greater incidence in the Central and Southern regions. The DGS called for special protection for vulnerable groups in light of this situation.
