The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) extended the yellow warning for hot weather until Saturday. The warning now covers 14 districts, an increase from the previous 11 districts.
As a result of the heat wave, several municipalities across the country are at maximum or very high risk of rural fire. The meteorological situation favors the risk of ignition and fire spread.
The government made an appeal to the individual awareness of citizens for fire prevention. The message aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of responsible behaviors during this period of high risk.
