The General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA) commemorated this Thursday, September 3, its 52nd anniversary, a date that marks the creation of this military structure that integrates the Armed Forces and depends on the Ministry of National Defence.

This year, the anniversary celebration took place in the city of Funchal, in Madeira, between September 2 and 4. The choice of this location to host the festivities represents a visit by the EMGFA to the autonomous region.

The structure of the EMGFA is responsible for coordinating and integrating the different components of the Portuguese Armed Forces, functioning as the central body for military command and direction under the authority of the Ministry of National Defence.
